A bit of background about North Ayrshire Women’s Aid.
North Ayrshire Women’s Aid is a unique specialist service which provides the full package of emotional and practical support which is both needed and valued by women and children affected by domestic abuse.
What are the signs of domestic abuse?
Domestic abuse is the mental, physical and/or sexual abuse by a partner or ex- partner. Domestic abuse is not an isolated incident. It is usually a pattern of controlling behaviour which gets worse over time. Controlling behaviour includes telling someone what they can do, who they can see, how they can spend their time and undermining their self-confidence and self-esteem. Physical violence and threats may be used to maintain control.
We know that making that first step towards getting help can be difficult. We have set up this website so that you can gain a full understanding of what we can offer you, at your own pace, and in your own home.
When you’re ready to get in touch, you can call us on 01294 602424 (9-6). one of our workers will be available to listen, to help you think about your options, and if necessary, arrange somewhere safe for you to stay. Please do not feel embarrassed or ashamed, because you are not alone.
(Outwith office hours call the national helpline on 0800 027 1234).
All our support services are free. If you are working and stay at the refuge you may have to make a contribution to your accommodation costs.
All information you share with us is confidential unless we have any concerns about safety and risk.
